This just in: The first formal online review of my new album (which won't officially be released until June 21st) has recently been brought to my attention and it is favorable, I'm happy to report. You'll never guess where it originated from. I am pleasantly surprised it originated from where many great things on Earth have originated from - Africa.
I had no idea my music had reached the continent of Africa until recently. Apparently, if you speak Swahili, you can read about, listen to, and buy my latest albums on Google Play Music.
My new release, Missing The Boat (https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Scott_Cooley_Missing_The_Boat?id=B5c754mscojnny57lfkchfdfuxa&hl=sw), which is only available currently as a pre-order, has in fact been pre-ordered and listened to by at least one person.
That person, who goes by the name of jumla ya ukadiriaji, has reviewed it and posted a review (https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Scott_Cooley_Missing_The_Boat?id=B5c754mscojnny57lfkchfdfuxa&hl=sw#details-reviews) that gives it a rating of 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. This person is likely from a country on the east coast of Africa like Tanzania, Kenya, or Mozambique where they speak that language.
This is really exciting to me, and so much so, that I thought it might help to get more people excited about the album if I shared this fact.
Speaking of Mozambique, it happens to be the title of one of my favorite songs by an influence of mine, Bob Dylan. A few reasons it is one of my favorites - the fact that it is simple, positive, and less serious than most of his songs - are also good ways to describe my new album.
Many of the songs are intentionally simple, positive, and less serious than usual for me (as compared with some of my other albums), and collectively, they fit an overarching theme of escapism.
Similarly, you can hear in this album the influence of another musician named Bob whose music I am a fan of - Marley, and I've heard that particularly since he played in Africa, the reggae style has been popular there, which may further help to explain this pre-order purchase and positive review.
Thanks jumla ya ukadiriaji! Hope this is a spark that will ignite a wildfire of more positive reviews, word-of-mouth recommendation, and online discovery of my new album.
