The Joy Of Your Company

Lyrics

I might not have much money

Or piles of personal possessions

No luxury items, boats or planes

Might not make the best first impression

But I get by just fine

With together time

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I desire

My heart is a furnace

And you're helping to fuel the fire

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I need

My soul is a garden

And you're helping me pull the weeds

I may not have much to do

Wild adventures or fancy vacations

No extravagant or exciting plans

I like to keep low expectations

But I get by just fine

With together time

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I desire

My heart is a furnace

And you're helping to fuel the fire

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I need

My soul is a garden

And you're helping me pull the weeds

When we're apart

And I'm alone

Our house is not a home

When you're here

All I want is to be near you

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I desire

My heart is a furnace

And you're helping to fuel the fire

I've got the joy of your company

And there's nothing else I need

My soul is a garden

And you're helping me pull the weeds

Information

A line in this song was from a quote I read that another songwriter, Joni Mitchell, said as an answer to an interview question, and that inspired me to write a song around it.  It was the soul garden/pulling weeds line.  This is one where when I got done writing and recording it, I thought it was way better than I do now after a lot of time passed, which happens.
