Where There's Smoke

"Where There's Smoke"

Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.

What folks don't know is where there's smoke

There's something sacred

Spirits can be good and bad

While fires burn in unspoken secret places

Peace pipes are passed

At the sun dances for days

Good things come

To those who sacrifice and pray

Some say where there's smoke there's a fire

But they just wanna cast the 1st stone

I say where there's smoke, there's smoke

And that's all I need to know

What people don't notice is where there's smoke

There's a mirror

A trick of the trade, a magical way

To see yourself clearer

There's plastic in the ocean

But out of sight is out of mind

Only you can prevent it

Give a hoot before you let 'em all die

Some say where there's smoke there's a fire

But they just wanna cast the 1st stone

I say where there's smoke, there's smoke

And that's all I need to know

Canoeing through a river of rubbish

While smokestacks scorch the sky

From factories all created by the evil white man

Garbage on the shoreline

Some of you think that where there's smoke

There's no respect

People throwing trash out of cars

It's no wonder Mother Earth is getting wrecked

Standing by a highway of smog

There's no good reason why

If people start it, they can stop it

It's enough to make an Indian cry

Some say where there's smoke there's a fire

But they just wanna cast the 1st stone

I say where there's smoke, there's smoke

And that's all I need to know

Trouble on the horizon

Rain cloud in the sky

What goes up, must come down

Tear drops never lie

Some folks can see that where there's smoke

There's a signal

A sign of a time when everyone is blind

To the destruction that they kindle

Some are stoked to keep America beautiful

Most just roll the dice

They're buying time on credit

And their kids will pay the price

Some say where there's smoke there's a fire

But they just wanna cast the 1st stone

I say where there's smoke, there's smoke

And that's all I need to know
