Mountain Time
A folk rocker about a Midwesterner's yearning to return to the Rocky Mountains where both the skiing and lifestyle are far better.

"Mountain Time"
Music & Lyrics by Scott Cooley.
When fall leaves die, my thoughts turn far away
Need to feel alive, and I'm tired of these great lakes
As flakes start to fly, I dream of riding up so high
Where I can reach my peak, and see miles of blue sky
So drop me off in Vail and leave me alone
It's all I need to feel right at home
I need mountain time, where I can get in the zone
A guitar, a jeep and a pair of skis are all I need to own
I need mountain time, where life still has ups and downs
High speed quads to the top, deep powder back to town
Put my conventional life on hold, and feed my soul with snow
Mountain time, where no one gets old
Sometimes these flatlands make me feel so low
I'm making plans and I know where I need to go
To get a jagged horizon, I gotta head out west
Get some altitude, where my attitude is best
Just drop me off in Vail, and let me ski
It's all I want my life to be, yeah
I need mountain time, where I can get in the zone
A guitar, a jeep and a pair of skis are all I need to own
I need mountain time, where life still has ups and downs
High speed quads to the top, deep powder back to town
Put my conventional life on hold, and feed my soul with snow
Mountain time, where no one gets old
It's true I can still ski here, but lifts and lines are so much slower
Yes, there's a lake effect, but it's ten ice turns over and over
I could pray, but God already knows I'm only gettin' older
I could stay, but that would only drag me down even lower
I've made up my mind
I need mountain time, no Michigan hills anymore
My boards are in the rack, and I've got one boot out the door
I need mountain time, the ski bum life is what I love
And I'm one step away, from finally risin' above
I'm gonna have to leave these pretty lakes and trees behind
For mountain time
